31 Years and Counting...

Besides being World Smile Day ...

... Today marks the 31st anniversary of our marriage which is really something to smile about.

We have lived a relatively comfortable life without any real marital problems. Sure, we've had a few disagreements over the years, but not many. I can't remember ever having a serious fight with her. We seem to have pretty similar tastes in most things and a healthy willingness to compromise in those areas where they may differ. Neither one of us is perfect, though for many years I truly thought that she was, and said so.

We've never been really rich, or really poor. We've been able to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table. No small feat considering some of the trials we've been through.

We've not seen fit to have all the expensive toys that other families have had, like a boat, snowmobiles, 4-wheelers and such. And sometimes I wish we'd been able to do more in that area when I see the family traditions and fun bonding experiences other families have enjoyed.

Instead, we spent our money on the necessities of raising a family of six children. Food, clothing, transportation, schooling, medical attention, housing, etc. all put significant pressure on the budget.

I guess that, looking back, there's not a lot I would change. We've fared pretty well over the years. Our children are still close by, and still close to each other both geographically and personally. We still enjoy family activities together though scheduling and logistics are becoming more difficult to manage.

Thank you, LeAnn, for 31 wonderful years of living with and learning from you. We each seem to be strong in different areas so we complement each other.

A few numbers, for those so inclined:
4 Addresses we've had
6 Children we have (3 boys, 3 girls)
5 Grandchildren we have today (2 more are on the way, 1 of which could be here any day now)
10 Vehicles we've owned during our marriage
31 Years together

Happy Anniversary! I enjoyed reading this post. I've seen 28ish years of your 31, but from a very different perspective.
